Modi regime’s land grab move angers Mirwaiz, warns of people’s reaction
Srinagar, January 18 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed great anguish at the Modi regime’s another move to further encroach upon the rights of Kashmiri people by creating private land banks and handing them over to outsiders in the name of setting up industries in the disputed territory.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who is in under house arrest in Srinagar in a statement said, this move will further disempower locals especially the poorer segment.
The APHC leader said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are already at the receiving end after the revocation of 35A the Indian government allowing any Indian citizen to purchase non-agricultural land in the territory and subsequently further notified a new set of rules changing of title of agricultural land to non-agricultural on fulfilling conditions.
After the so called Roshni land scam case, marginal farmers who got state land regularised under the Jammu & Kashmir State land Act, have become the targets, he added.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that all these attempts are meant to accelerate and facilitate the settlement of outsiders in Jammu and Kashmir in order to bring about demographic change in the composition of the territory, while keeping the locals entangled in fighting for their basic rights.
“These actions will only vitiate the atmosphere as the sense of insecurity and frustration among people of Jammu and Kashmir increases and they will naturally react,” he warned. He once again asked the authorities to desist from such diktats and revoke these anti-local laws.
The APHC leader asked both the governments of India and Pakistan to come to the dialogue table and resolve the Kashmir dispute and give real peace a chance in the South Asian region.
“Once this issue is resolved, the mistrust and insecurities that both countries have will cease and people of Jammu and Kashmir will also be spared the incessant assault on their identity and freedoms.
