Pakistan calls for political solutions of long-running conflicts, including Kashmir
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, addressing to the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, said member states, particularly the UN Security Council, can support political solutions through sustained attention, especially in the case of conflicts and disputes that have persisted for a long time.
He said Jammu and Kashmir dispute is one such example, where the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan has been defined for a just and lasting solution. He said such a solution would lead to a durable peace in the region and beyond.
Munir Akram said peacekeeping is most effective when it is backed by a well-defined political strategy.
