Crippling strike paralyzes life in occupied Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, November 19 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, normal life was paralyzed, today, due to a crippling strike against the extrajudicial killing of four civilians by Indian troops in a fake encounter in Srinagar.

All shops and business establishments were closed while traffic was off the road to protest the killing of civilians in Hyderpora area of Srinagar. The occupation authorities deployed Indian troops and police personnel in strength in Srinagar and other major towns of the territory to prevent people from staging demonstrations against the cold blooded murder of innocent civilians. The authorities once again disallowed people to offer Juma prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

Despite heavy deployment of Indian forces’ personnel, people offered funeral prayers in absentia in several mosques of the occupied territory for the victims of Hyderpora fake encounter. Two of the four martyred civilians, Altaf Ahmad Butt and Dr Mudassir, were laid to rest in Barazulla and Rawlapora areas of Srinagar before dawn, today, after their bodies were exhumed from a graveyard in Handwara area of Kupwara, last evening. Thousands of people turned out for their reburials even though the occupation authorities had instructed the family members to bury the men at night and not to allow crowds to assemble. The mourners also shouted slogan “we want freedom”.

Call for the strike and funeral prayers in absentia was given by the illegally detained All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Masarrat Aalam Butt, and the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and was supported by almost all Hurriyat leaders and organizations and High Court Bar Association.

The APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar condemned the upsurge in extrajudicial killing of civilians in fake encounters by Indian troops in IIOJK. He hailed the valour and strong commitment displayed by the aggrieved families of the martyred Altaf Ahmad Butt and Dr Mudassir Gul in getting back their dead bodies and said that the drama of a fake encounter has exposed the ugly face of India in IIOJK. The Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum in a statement called upon the occupation authorities to desist from the criminal practice of ceasing bodies of the martyred Kashmiris and denying their families the right to a proper burial, which is abhorrently inhuman.

Senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, addressing a Juma congregation in Badgam, today, demanded an exemplary punishment to the Indian troops involved in Hyderpora fake encounter. Another APHC leader, Advocate Devinder Singh Behl, in a statement in Jammu said the troops are killing innocent Kashmiris under a well-hatched conspiracy to change the demography of the territory. The Grand Mufti of IIOJK, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, in a statement demanded impartial probe into the Hyderpora fake encounter to punish the perpetrators.

The APHC-AJK chapter held a protest demonstration outside Indian High Commission in Islamabad, today, while Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir organized a sit-in protest in Muzaffarabad, today, against the killing of innocent Kashmiris by Indian troops in IIOJK.
