Srinagar, August 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed, today, against the Indian plans to abrogate Article 35A of Indian Constitution to convert Muslim majority of the territory into minority.

Call for the strike was given by the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and supported by traders of the occupied territory. It was also aimed at condemning the ongoing killing spree by Indian forces and the arrest of Hurriyat leaders by Delhi-based National Investigation Agency and Enforcement Directorate. All shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while traffic was off the road.

Strike was also observed in Bhadarwah, Doda, Kishtwar, Gandoh and Thathri areas of Jammu region against India’s nefarious plans to change the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir by tinkering with the Article 35A.

The Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement issued in Srinagar warned that the people of occupied Kashmir will hit the streets if Article 35A was abrogated as this measure will alter the demography of the territory by settling people from India with the right to acquire land and property and vote in the Assembly elections.
