Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has deplored that the Narendra Modi-led Indian government is hell bent upon erasing the Muslim identity of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said the Modi regime is making all-out efforts to transform Muslim majority occupied Kashmir into a Hindu majority region. He said Modi’s saffron brigade has initiated a cultural war against Kashmiri Muslims.
The spokesman pointed out that as part of Indianizing Kashmir, BJP government is rechristening educational institutions, roads, government building and important places having Muslims names and cited the renaming of Jhelum Stadium at Janbazpora in Baramulla district after former Indian Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat, as its latest example. Occupied Kashmir witnessed a surge in killings during RSS worker Bipin Rawat’s tenure as Indian army chief, he said. He added that the Modi regime has already rechristened a number of schools, colleges and roads in IIOJK.
The APHC spokesman noted that the properties, lives, honour and religious identity of IIOJK Muslims are facing assault from Modi’s Hindutva regime. “RSS-backed Indian government wants to snatch away Muslim identity and culture of Kashmiris. It is aggressively pursuing the RSS agenda of saffronizing Muslims majority occupied Kashmir. The Modi regime’s name changing spree is aimed at erasing Muslim culture and imprints from Kashmir,” he said.
The spokesman said the Hindutva ideology is the main driving force behind Indianization of Kashmir and establishing hegemony of Hindus and Hindu way of life. Modi’s August 5, 2019 illegal actions were meant to snatch Kashmiris’ identity and dignity, he said, adding that reviving pre-Islamic Hindu civilization in Kashmir is the goal of BJP and RSS.
The APHC spokesman maintained that the Kashmiri people are determined to frustrate Modi’s efforts to Hinduize IIOJK and protect their unique identity and culture at all costs. Evil tactics of Modi and his henchmen cannot stop Kashmiris from pursuing their just struggle, he added.
