IIOJK HC quashes PSA detention of Kashmiri journalist Sajad Gul
Srinagar: The High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has quashed the illegal detention of Kashmiri journalist Sajad Gul, booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA).
According to Kashmir Media Service, the court’s decision, citing vague grounds and violations of constitutional rights, marks a crucial turn in the case that began with Sajad’s arrest in January 2022.
Sajad Gul, a journalism student at Central University of Kashmir, was arrested on January 10, 2022 in the wake of multiple raids by the Indian troops on his house. Fed up with frequent raids, Sajad handed himself over to the police. He is currently lodged at Uttar Pradesh’s central jail, India.
Sajad Gul had posted a video of the protest against the martyrdom of Salim Parray. Parray was martyred on January 3 during a CASO in Harwan area of Srinagar. After the killing, protests and sloganeering erupted in Parray’s hometown, Hajin in north Kashmir.
