Sopore women hit streets over water shortage

Srinagar: The residents of Checkroday Khan village of Sopore in Baramulla district, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, staged a protest against severe water scarcity in their area for the last many years.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the residents said they have been experiencing a shortage of drinking water for the last several years, and despite their complaints, the authorities have not resolved their long pending issue.

The residents claimed that the absence of clean drinking water had forced them to consume unhygienic water, leading to serious health concerns. They said that their area is the worst hit due to water shortage.

“We have been left with no option but to take to the streets to raise our voices for basic necessities,” Saleema Begum, one of the residents said. She said the village has been without water for the last many years and the authorities are not paying any heed to our repeated requests.
