IIOJK HC quashes PSA detention of shopkeeper lodged in India’s Agra jail

Srinagar: The High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has quashed the illegal detention of a shopkeeper from North Kashmir booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA).

According to Kashmir Media Service, senior Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak representing the incarcerated shopkeeper told the media that the detention of Javaid Iqbal Khan, a resident of Nusu area of Bandipora, was quashed by the court. He said that Javaid was arrested by the Indian police on false charges in May 2022 and was booked under the PSA.

Javaid was put behind bars in previous FIRs for which he had been already released. He is a shopkeeper and is currently lodged at the Agra Jail in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The court of Justice Sreedharan after hearing the arguments of Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak directed the authorities to release Javaid from Agra Jail.

It is to be mentioned here that thousands of Kashmiris including Hurriyat leaders and activists arrested under false charges are lodged in different jails of India.
