Mehbooba asks for not removing additional duty on American apples, other products
Srinagar: In what appears to be an intended blow to the Kashmiri fruit industry, India has decided to to lift additional duties on several American products including fruits, which prompted Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday to criticize the decision.
The PDP chief urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the decisionand said that the move will have a devastating effect on the economy of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehboooba’s reaction came in response to the Indian government’s decision to remove additional duties on US products like apples, walnuts, and almonds among other items.
Taking to her social media handle Mehbooba said, “Indian government’s decision to remove additional duties on apples, walnuts and almonds will have a devastating effect on local growers in J&K already grappling with huge losses post-2019,” she posted posted on X.
