Woman cop attacked in UP train, police not ignoring sexual assault case

Lukhnow: A woman constable was attacked and injured in a train compartment in Uttar Pradesh state of India.

The woman constable was discovered unconscious in a pool of blood in a train compartment of the Saryu Express at Ayodhya station in the state.

Her face was attacked with a sharp weapon and she had sustained two fractures in her skull. She was admitted to Lucknow’s KGMC hospital and her condition is stable now, the police said.

The FIR complaint was registered by the constable’s brother causing harm to deter a public servant from their duty and attempted murder.

A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Pritinker Diwaker and Justice Ashutosh Srivastava of Allahabad High Court directed the Government Railway Police (GRP) to present a progress report on their investigation by September 13.

It is worth mentioning here that incidents of rape attempts by Hindutva goons in trains have increased many times since the Bharatiya Janata Party came into power in the Center as well in UP. However, police said any evidence of sexual assault could be ascertained after investigation.
