Malegaon blast case: Indian SC directs NIA’s special court to complete hearing soon

New Delhi, March 20 (KMS): The Supreme Court of India has directed the special court of the notorious National Investigative Agency (NIA) to complete the hearing of the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case as soon as possible.

A two-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Harishikesh Rai and Justice Manoj Mishra, while hearing the petition filed by the victims of the Malegaon blast, including Syed Nisar Ahmed, asked the NIA court to complete the hearing of the case soon.

In this case, Indian Army Colonel Prasad Purohit, Major Ramesh Padhyay, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Sameer Kulkarni, Ajay Eknath Rahekar, Sudhakar Dhar Do Yedi and Sudhakar Chaturvedi were arrested against whom the case is pending in the NIA court.

It should be noted that on September 29, 2008, six people were killed and more than hundred injured in a motorcycle bomb blast in the Muslim-majority city of Malegaon in Maharashtra.

The case was initially investigated by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad. However, later in April 2011, it was handed over to the NIA for further investigation.
