Protests in Srinagar, Delhi against demolition drive in IIOJK

Srinagar, February 07 (KMS): Peoples Democratic Party today staged a protest march in Srinagar against land eviction and demolition drives initiated by the authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The PDP protesters including its leaders and activists marched from party office near Municipal Park towards traffic headquarters in the city and raised slogans against the Modi-led Indian government and the IIOJK administration. They were carrying placards in their hands reading slogans like ‘Kashmir for Kashmiris’, ‘Stop ruling Jammu and Kashmir like a colony’, ‘Landless, jobless, homeless,’ ‘Stop bulldozing our homes.’

While talking to reporters one of the PDP leaders, Mohit Bhan said that the BJP government has been dispossessing the people of IIOJK from their land and homes. He said demolition exercise was being carried out through the arbitrary use of bulldozers to invent homelessness in the territory, adding that in New Delhi colonies under illegal occupation are being regularized while in Jammu and Kashmir, the land from natives is being snatched.

The protesters said that the Modi regime was using police to suppress the people of the occupied territory, demanding that the bulldozer policy be halted without any delay. They maintained that the honor and dignity of the people of Kashmir were being trampled and disturbance was created to add woes to their hardships. “People are being humiliated. They have no say, no access to power corridors. Law is not being followed. Stick approach is pursued to crush common people,” the protesters added.

Separately, scores of Kashmiris joined by some non-Kashmiri activists staged protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding an immediate halt to the ongoing demolition drive launched across IIOJK. The activists including Aadil Nazir Khan, Waqar H Bhatti Dr. Abdul Bari Naik & O.P. Shah ( Peace activist) said that the drive was politically motivated and had created a scare among people across the territory. “It needs to be immediately stopped,” they demanded.
