Writers urged to highlight Kashmir dispute at world level.

Islamabad, February 04 (KMS): The Chairman of Pakistan Academy of Letters Dr Yousuf Khushk has said that writers have to play an important role through their writings to highlight the Kashmir dispute at the global level.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr Yousuf Khushk in his opening speech at a mushaira, organized by Pakistan Academy of Letters in collaboration with Arbab Zouq Circle, Islamabad, here said seven decades have passed and now the eighth decade is going on, but the injustices and abuses against the people of Kashmir are increasing day by day. He said that India was committing the worst kind of rights violations in the occupied territory.

He said now is the time for international rights organizations to increase pressure on India to stop state terrorism in IIOJK and settle the lingering Kashmir dispute according to the United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Prominent poet Haleem Qureshi said Jammu and Kashmir is connected with Pakistan in every way, adding Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan cannot tolerate the brutalities of Indian troops on innocent people of the occupied territory. Now in every case the people of the pen have to highlight the Kashmir dispute, he added.

Prof. Dr. Maqsood Jafri said the Modi government has been targeting Sikhs, Muslims and people of other religions, and in the same way cruelty reigns in Kashmir, appealing the writers and poets to pay attention to the Kashmir dispute and strongly protest against the Indian atrocities in the territory.

Later, a mushaira was held under the chairmanship of Haleem Qureshi.

Halim Qureshi and Professor Dr. Maqsood presided over the mushaira while Naseem Sahar, Abdul Qadir Taban and Farkhunda Shamim were the special guests. KHaliqur Rehman performed as stage secretary.

Rizwan Haider Rizwan, Haseeb Jamal, Raz Ehtsham, Samira Naz, Samina Tabssum, Rukhsana Sehar, Nusrat Yab Nusrat, Rukhsana Nazi, Shazia Akbar, Saeed Raja and Dr. Mazhar Iqbal recited their kalam in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day.
