AMU student suspended for raising ‘Allah o Akbar’ slogan

New Delhi, January 28 (KMS): A student of Aligarh Muslim University was suspended for raising ‘Allah o Akbar’ slogan during an Indian Republic Day function at the university.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a University student told the media over the phone that a student Wahiduz Zaman from West Bengal was suspended after he raised Allah o Akbar (God is Great) slogan during a ceremony on 26 January at SS Hall (south).

He said that the video was shared on social media after which sections of Indian news channels shared the video demonizing the university and its students calling them ‘habitual’ offenders.

In the video, students, clad in the uniform of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), are purportedly heard chanting the slogan after the hoisting of the Tri-colour on campus, outside Strachey Hall.

The University taking cognizance of the incident said that the student has been suspended.

The AMU has also formed a three-member committee “in order to enquire into the entire incident and to fix responsibility where required.”
