Saharanpur, India, January 19 (KMS): Veteran Kashmiri Islamic scholar, Mufti Abdul Ghani Azhari, has passed away in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after a brief illness. He was 100-plus years of age.
Mufti Abdul Ghani Azhari, the former head of the Arabic department at the University of Kashmir, breathed his last at Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur, the institution he was serving after retirement. He was laid to rest in Saharanpur, India.
Meanwhile, Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Mufti Abdul Ghani Azhari, a leading religious scholar and spiritual leader of IIOJK.
The Anjuman on behalf of the institution and its incarcerated president Mirwaiz Umar Farooq paid glowing tribute to Mufti Abdul Ghani Azhari for his 70-year-long religious, academic, preaching and teaching services.
