Woman, twin babies die as hospital refuses treatment for not carrying Aadhaar in Karnataka

Bengaluru, November 04 (KMS): In an unfortunate incident that exposes the pathetic state of health system in India, a pregnant woman and her twin babies died after the lady was denied treatment at a government hospital in the Karnataka state as she was not carrying an Aadhaar card.

The incident took place on Wednesday night at District Hospital in Tumakuru city. A doctor and three nurses of the hospital were suspended for negligence.

The doctor and the hospital staff had suggested the pregnant woman that she should go to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru even as she was suffering from labour pain, Indian media reported.

However, the woman returned to her home as she could not arrange money to hire ambulance to travel to Bengaluru. She delivered early on Thursday morning and bled profusely after giving birth to a male baby, and died before the second child was born, media reports said.
