Bhopal, September 22 (KMS): Muslim prisoners were abused and forced to shave off their beards by jail authorities in Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
The Rajgarh district jail officer forced them to remove their beards, said Muslim prisoners after they were released on bail.
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi said it was an act of custodial torture. Five Muslims – Kalim Khan, Talib Khan, Arif Khan, Salman Khan and Wahid Khan – were sent to the district jail on September 13 after being arrested by police in fake cases and were released on September 15.
The Bhopal Congress MLA Arif Masood along with the five men met MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra has accused the jail authorities of forcing the five men to shave their beards and demanded action against the jail authorities.
He said that these men were also abused in the jail.
AIMIM chief Owaisi in a video shared on his Twitter handle said those men could have been given bail in the police station itself but were sent to jail. He asked “why men with beard are termed Pakistanis”. “Can this be done with BJP people with beard?” he sought to know.
