Kanpur, August 01 (KMS): Amid the wave of communalism in the country, some Hindu organizations have raised controversy against a school in Kanpur, alleging that the school is teaching Hindu children to recite the kalima.
At ‘Florets International School’, children were asked to recite the kalima during morning prayers, which some parents and Hindu organizations objected to. A complaint has also been filed with the police.
After receiving the complaint, the police reached the school and found out that the school teaches not only the word but also the prayers of Hindus and Sikhs. The school management said that the institution was established in 2003 and since then Gayatri Mantra, Gurbani and Kalima are taught here in the morning assembly.
Right-wing activists suddenly objected to the practice, which has been in place for the past decade, accusing the school of imposing a religion on students.
School principal Sumit Mukhija said, “This has been the tradition in this school for years. In the school diary, verses and verses related to all major religions including Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity, Islam are written, with the aim of giving equal respect to all religions. Now suddenly a group of Hindu fundamentalists and some parents objected to it.”
Meanwhile, the school management said they would sort out the issue with the parents concerned.
