Rahul Gandhi detained amid protests’ says India is a police state

New Delhi, July 26 (KMS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was detained at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi on Tuesday as he, along with other Congress leaders, was protesting against the Enforcement Directorate questioning party chief Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by his security personnel, was whisked away in a police van.

Seventeen other Congress MPs besides Rahul Gandhi were detained by Delhi Police, as per the report.

Rahul Gandhi was sitting on a road near Vijay Chowk as part of the sit-in.

The Delhi Police were trying to convince him to leave the place as Section 144 was imposed due to the ongoing session of Parliament.

“India is a police state,” said Rahul Gandhi as Congress MPs were detained along with him.

Earlier, youth Congress leaders and workers staged a protest at the Congress headquarters in Delhi. They came out of the premises and indulged in commotion with the police personnel.

Congress MPs led by Rahul Gandhi staged a protest march from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan, reads the report.
