India denounced for inflicting pain on IIOJK detainees, families

Srinagar, July 04 (KMS): Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has said that the shifting of over 50 Kashmiris from Jammu to different jails of India is blatant violation of human rights and also in contravention to the verdict of India’s own Supreme Court that had instructed the authorities not to detain prisoners in jails located far away from their houses.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar on Monday, the DFP spokesman while referring to the shifting of Hurriyat leaders and activists including Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Aadil Zargar, Dawood Zargar and Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati from Kotbhalwal jail in Jammu to different jails of India said that the move was to inflict pain and miseries on the Kashmiri prisoners and their families.

He said that it was unfortunate that besides Kashmiri political activists, rights defenders, social activists and members of civil society were roughed up, booked under sedition laws and left to rot in faraway jails where their families cannot meet them easily.

He lamented that a prominent human rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo had also been shifted from Srinagar jail to Kotbhalwal jail in Jammu.

“It is a deliberate attempt to punish Kashmiris”, the DFP said adding that thousands of Kashmiris including top Hurriyat leaders who were booked before and after 5th August 2019 were languishing in jails outside Kashmir.

Urging world human rights bodies to take effective notice of the matter, the DFP spokesman said that Indian occupation authorities were targeting human rights activists and journalists to enforce complete silence in Kashmir.
