Protest demos in Jammu on account of various issues

Jammu, June 18 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, people staged a strong protest demonstration in Udhampur district of Jammu region against the opening of liquors shop near a girls high school and a temple.

The protesters expressed anger over the opening of liquor shops near Girls High School in Jaganoo and temple. They said on one hand, the Indian government talks about eradication of drugs while on the other, liquor shops are being opened by the authorities near schools and religious places. They said that the authorities seem least bothered about the society.

Meanwhile, several senior leaders and activists of Indian Congress party were arrested by the police when they were holding a demonstration near Press Club in Jammu against the vindictive policies of the BJP government against the Congress leadership, especially Rahul Gandhi.

The protesters raised slogans against BJP accusing Modi government of indulging in political vendetta against Congress party. They accused the Modi regime of misusing Central agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take on the opposition leaders to gag the voice of opposition.

A heavy contingent of police stopped the protesters from proceeding towards Raj Bhawan, official residence of the Lieutenant Governor, took them into custody and shifted them to district police lines.

Separately, several youth were detained as they took to the streets in Jammu region and tried to block highways to protest against the newly launched military recruitment scheme by the Indian government. The youth protested in Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri districts of IIOJK. The police resorted to lathicharge and detained several protesters.

Unser the scheme, the youth between the ages of 17 and-a-half and 21 years would be inducted for a four-year tenure while 25 per cent of them will be subsequently inducted for regular service.
