Pahalgam converted into garrison weeks before start of Amarnath Yatra

Srinagar, June 11 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities have converted famous tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district into a military garrison by placing it under a thick security blanked weeks ahead of the annual Hindu pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra, causing huge inconvenience to the locals.

Indian paramilitary personnel deployed in strength can be seen patrolling most of the roads in the area. New pickets have come up at many places along the Islamabad-Pahalgam route where the troops frisk the vehicles and subject the travelers to identification checks.

The paramilitary personnel and police commandoes also carry out regular search operations in the forest area of Pahalgam. Indian government has already approved 50 companies of the police, military and paramilitary forces at specific locations along the route. Scores of bullet-proof SUV police vehicles and bullet-proof bunkers have been deployed as part of the biggest-ever security blanket thrown to secure Hindu pilgrims.

Reportedly, CRPF will be equipped with high-tech gadgets being used first time during the annual pilgrimage of Hindus.

The Hindu Yatra is scheduled to start on June 30 from the twin routes – traditional 48-km Nunwan in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam and 14-km shorter Baltal in Ganderbal. The Yatra will conclude on August 11.
