Ali Raza Syed condemns sentencing of life imprisonment to Yasin Malik

Brussels, May 26 (KMS): The Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU), Ali Raza Syed has condemned the announcement of an Indian court verdict for life imprisonment to prominent Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Muhammad Yasin Malik, on Wednesday.

Ali Raza Syed in a statement issued in Brussels urged the international community, including the European Union (EU), to use their good offices for early and unconditional release of Yasin Malik.

As per media reports, two life imprisonments have been given by the Indian court to Yasin Malik, besides 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 10 lakh penalty. Yasin Malik has been in jail for the last three years on false charges.

Purpose of the rigorous sentence to the Kashmiri leader is to shake the courage of the people of Kashmir but they will not compromise on their right to self determination, he added.

Ali Raza Syed said Indian authorities sentenced Yasin Malik on the fake old allegations. Life of Malik is in danger, he said, adding previously the capital punishment was given to liberation leaders Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru through unfair trial of their fake cases.

The KCEU Chairman also wrote a letter to the European Union authorities, including Charles Michel, the President of European Council, Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of European Commission, Josep Borrel, High Representative of EU and David McAllister, the Chair of Committee of Foreign Affair of EU parliament.

In his letter, Ali Raza Syed urged the European authorities to use their good offices for early and unconditional release of Yasin Malik. He also called for unconditional release of Kashmiri rights activists, including Khurram Parvez and Mohammad Ahsan Untoo, journalists Sajjad Gul and Fahad Shah and as well as the political activists detained in different jails of IIOJK and India.
