Hindu mob thrashes journalists mainly Muslims at event in New Delhi

New Delhi, April o4 (KMS): Several journalists, mainly Muslims, were assaulted by a Hindutva mob during coverage of a Hindu gathering Mahapanchayat in Indian capital, New Delhi.

Meer Faisal, a journalist based in Delhi, said that he along with other fellows was attacked while covering the event.

“We were beaten up by Hindu mob because of our Muslim identity. Communal slurs were shouted on us. We had gone there to cover the event. We were called jihadists and attacked for being Muslims,”Meer Faisal added.

Another journalist Arbab Ali said, “We had gone to cover the Hindu Mahapanchayat at Burari Ground in Delhi today. The event was called by Save India Foundation. Yati Narsingha Nand, Pinky Choudhary, Sushil Tiwari, Suresh Chahvanke and Preet Singh were there. Journalists belonging to web portal, News Laundry, were also attacked.”

A Delhi-based journalist had tweeted that he along with four journalists were detained by the police after two minority community journalists among them were assaulted by a mob present at the Burari ground in north west Delhi. In his tweet, he had said that ‘anti-Muslim’ hate speeches were given by the speakers present there.

A Kashmiri Pandit journalist was also thrashed by a Hindutva mob while he was covering the event.

Shahid Tantray, Mohammed Meharban, Meer Faisal, Arbab Ali and Meghnad Bose were among the journalists targeted by the assailants.
