Deployment of additional forces belies normalcy claims of Indian govt: NC

Srinagar, November 04 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference has said that additional deployment of paramilitary forces in the territory belies Indian government’s claims on return of peace.

Addressing party workers at NC office in Srinagar party’s Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mastafa Kamal said the claims of the Indian government with regard to normalcy in IIOJK stand exposed. He said such claims are far from the truth, adding that additional paramilitary forces are being deployed in the Valley.

He said, bunkers are making a comeback on the city roads after nearly eight years and more paramilitary personnel are being deployed following the spate of civilian killings in Kashmir over the past weeks.

He said security bunkers manned by paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are being set up in many areas of Srinagar where these were removed between 2011 and 2014. This time new bunkers have come up at places where no such structure existed even at the peak of militancy in the valley in the 1990s, he said.

“People are still in shock and seem psychologically disturbed showing heightened anxiety and paranoia due to such measures,” he added.

Mustafa Kamal maintained that after the revocation of IIOJK’s special status, Indian media and officials have repeatedly insisted that Kashmir is limping back to normalcy. However, he said, the ground reality in the shape of garrisoning cities with bunkers, targeted killings, the ongoing Poonch encounter and increased foot prints of forces and police personnel deflate such claims.
