Washington, September 16 (KMS): The World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF) has welcomed the appointment of illegally detained Masarrat Aalam Butt as new Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference hoping that he will prove a strong and capable successor to the late veteran leader, Syed Ali Gilani.
The World Kashmir Awareness Forum in a statement issued in Washington said, “We congratulate Masarrat Aalam Butt as Chairman and also welcome Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar as new vice chairmen of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. In view of their lifelong services and dedication to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and their demand for self-determination, the World Kashmir Awareness Forum endorses the new leadership wholeheartedly.”
WKAF said that Syed Ali Gilani, a hero for his unwavering commitment to the Kashmiri people and a free Kashmir, instilled great confidence and trust in Masarrat Aalam Butt’s leadership. “Masarrat Aalam Butt and Shabbir Ahmed Shah have been wrongfully jailed for over 27 and 37 years respectively at the will of Indian occupational forces who continue to harm, terrorize, and harass our people,” the statement added.
Masarrat Aalam Butt has been booked under the infamous Public Safety Act and other draconian laws by India 38 times. Most of those detention orders were quashed by courts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and until 2019. He has remained resolute in fighting for the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir.
“Our demand for the exercise of the self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir remains unwavering and we will not rest until justice and peace are achieved in our land,” WKAF concluded.
