Indian police videos of iconic Gilani’s funeral stir fresh anger

Mufti Nasir-ul-Islamic terms the act “Un-Islamic”

Srinagar, Sept 08 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as if the snatching of the body of the veteran Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Gilani, from his family for burial against his will was not enough, the circulation of the video footage of the funeral of the deceased Hurriyat leader on social media by the police has led to mounting public anger to the act which has been termed un-Islamic.

The police posted a video on Twitter on Monday showing Syed Ali Gilani’s body being washed, wrapped in a shroud and buried. The police issued the clips after a video widely shared on social media showed the veteran leader’s body, wrapped in a Pakistan flag, being taken away by armed police as his family resisted the action. Fearing protests, his grave at Hyderpora in Srinagar is under armed guard and visitors are not allowed.

The people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are very angry to what they termed an un-Islamic act of the Indian police to circulate the video footage of the funeral of veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani to desecrate his dead body.

The Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam has termed the circulation of police footage of Syed Ali Gilani’s funeral as un-Islamic. He said that the body of a deceased person must be respected even if it is a “criminal sentenced to death”.

“I think his family is hurt and the people of occupied Kashmir are hurt. Police should apologize for doing this,” the jurist said.
