Chandigarh, September 08 (KMS): Farmers protesting outside the mini-secretariat in Haryana’s Karnal district on Wednesday said that they were going to continue with their sit-in demonstration after talks with BJP government officials failed.
Hundreds of farmers have been sitting on a dharna outside the government office since Tuesday evening. “The sit-in protest will continue, the talks have failed,” BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said.
“Talk (with Karnal district admin) lasted for 3 hours but failed. Officers are not ready to suspend him (SDM Ayush Sinha) and lodge a case against him. The officers are getting directions from Chandigarh. So we have decided to continue our protest here,” Tikait told reporters.
The farmers are demanding action against the lathi-charge by the police on 28 August 28 anti-agri law protesters heading to Karnal to stage an agitation at a meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party chaired by Haryana CM.
At least 10 farmers were injured in the police action.
Former Karnal sub-divisional magistrate Ayush Sinha was caught on camera last month instructing police officers to “smash the heads” of farmers if they tried to breach a certain police barricade.
Tikait further claimed that the farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and other places will join the protest in Karnal.
“Along with our protests in Delhi, this agitation will also continue until our demands are met. Our demand is that the officer is suspended,” BKU leader said.
