Taliban seize Mi-24 helicopter gifted by India to Afghan army

Kabul, August 11 (KMS): Taliban, who are on an offensive in Afghanistan, have captured a helicopter gifted by the Indian Air Force to the Afghan Army in the country’s Kunduz region.

As per a media report, the Mi-24 attack helicopter of the Indian Air Force was handed over to the Government of Afghanistan in the year 2019.

In May 2019, the Indian government handed over two such helicopters to the Afghan government. Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar handed over these helicopters to the Defense Minister of Afghanistan Asadullah Khalid. It can be seen in the video footage that one of these helicopters is now occupied by the Taliban. In the year 2015 also, India had given Mi-24 helicopters to Afghanistan.

An agreement was signed between India, Belarus and Afghanistan in 2018, under which old helicopters will be handed over to Afghanistan after repairing. India has given the maximum number of Mi-24 helicopters to Afghanistan.
