Islamabad, August 08 (KMS): The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Hindu supremacist politics thrives on hate campaigns against Muslims as the BJP wants to turn India into a Hindu nation.

An analytical report release by Kashmir Media Service, today, said the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma is leveraging Assamese nationalism to push Hindutva. Following its poll victory, BJP-led Assam government is pursuing a more aggressive Hindutva agenda in the state, it added.

The report said, as part of its anti-Muslim campaign, the Assam Chief Minister announced plans to introduce a cow protection law in the Indian state.

It said, the BJP works on the same theory as the British Raj, to divide and rule, adding that hate speeches delivered by Indian Home Minister, Amit Shah during poll campaigns in Assam were focused on anti-Muslim sentiments just to achieve mere political gains.

The report maintained that Amit Shah had earlier called Bangladeshi migrants “termites”, evoking a sharp response from Dhaka. It said, Hindu supremacists are tearing India apart through their divisive politics

It deplored that the BJP-led government in Assam banned the teaching of Holy Quran in state-run madaris to “secularize education.”

It is to be mentioned that in the early years after independence, the country’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the ruling Indian National Congress (or Congress Party) advocated for an Indian brand of secularism designed to hold the country’s disparate communities together under one roof.

The Hindu nationalists, who later came to populate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its various ideological affiliates, have consistently harbored a starkly different view; they envision India as a majoritarian nation-state, not a multicultural one. The tensions inherent in these competing visions of Indian nationhood have come to the fore in recent years, especially since the BJP’s landmark electoral victory in 2014.
