Youth jumps to rescue drowning woman in Kupwara, both die

Srinagar, July 22 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a 25-year-old youth succumbed to injuries, he sustained, while attempting to rescue a drowning woman in Chowkibal area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Officials told media that an elderly woman purportedly lost balance and fell into nallah Kehmil while crossing it via a makeshift bridge in Chowkibal in Kralpora area. On noticing it, they said, a youth jumped into the nallah in a bid to rescue the drowning woman. He suffered serious injuries.

Later a rescue operation was started and both the drowning persons were recovered in unconscious condition, they said. While the woman was dead instantly, the youth was shifted in critical condition but succumbed on way to sub-district hospital, Kralpora.

The deceased have been identified as Subi Begium, wife of Mohammad Sayed Awan, resident of Rashanpora Kralpora (60) and Manzoor Ahmad Rance, son of Mohammad Yaqoob Rance, resident of Khanbal Chowkibal.
