Protesters in Brussels for EU’s role to stop violence against children in IIOJK

Brussels, July 13 (KMS): Participants of a protest camp in Brussels called upon the European Union to play its role for end to the Indian atrocities in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir especially violence against the Kashmiri children.

The protesters handed over a petition to the EU’s officials at the EU External Action Service at the end of the one-day protest camp today. The camp was organized by Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) on occasion of the Kashmir Martyrs’ Day observed in remembrance of martyrs of 13 July 1931 of Srinagar. The protest camp today was held in front of the EU External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels, the European headquarters.

It is important to mention that on 13 July 1931, thousands of Kashmiris flocked to the central jail in Srinagar to see the trial of a Kashmiri namely Abdul Qadeer. Then Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir ordered his soldiers to open fire on them, in total 22 Kashmiris died in the firing.

Addressing the EU’s authorities, the memorandum (petition) asked the EU to play its role for implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, giving the right to of self-determination to the Kashmiri people. It called for withdrawal of Indian occupation forces, an end to Indian state terrorism, end to genocidal repression, end to ethnic cleansing, rape, gang-rape, torture, and degrading treatment of Kashmiri men, women, and children. The petition also demanded unconditionally release of all those imprisoned including political figures in connection with resistance to the Indian occupation and permission to major human rights organisations for access to IIOJK.

The KCEU Chairman Ali Raza Syed who was organizer of the protest camp said, atrocities committed by the Indian forces against the oppressed Kashmiris are rapidly going on and a recent report of United Nation exposed that a large number of children were targeted by the Indian forces in IIOJK in the recent years.

He also asked the EU to play its role for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute and participation of the Kashmiri leadership in all round of the peace process on Kashmir should be ensured.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Council EU will also arrange a protest demonstration in front of Indian embassy in Brussels on 5th August 2021. It was 5th August 2019, when Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian regime repealed special status of IIOJK and put it under military siege.
