Juma prayers not allowed at Jamia Masjid, other mosques in IIOJK

Srinagar, June 11 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, congregational Juma prayers could not be held at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid and other major mosques, shrines and imambargahs in the territory due to continued military siege and the severe restrictions imposed by the authorities.

Normal life remained badly affected due to unrelenting military siege and corona-lockdown imposed by the Indian authorities. IIOJK is under strict military siege since August 05, 2019 imposed by the Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian government when it repealed the special status of the territory. The occupation authorities on April 29 imposed a curfew in 11 districts in the name of controlling the surge in COVID-19 cases. The curfew was later extended to all districts.

People were not allowed to offer congregational Juma prayers at historic Jamia Masjid, Dargah Hazratbal and other major mosques, shrines and imambargahs in Srinagar and other areas of the occupied territory.

Indian police and paramilitary personnel remained deployed in strength in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley and the Jammu region to prevent the movement of people. Shops and other business establishments in most of the areas remained shut while public transport was off the roads.
