Srinagar, May 06 (KMS): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has demanded of the Indian authorities to lift restrictions on him so that he can lead the funeral prayers of senior Hurriyat leader, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar has given a call for complete shutdown on Thursday to mourn the custodial death of the Hurriyat leader.
The Hurriyat forum in a statement said that Ashraf Sehrai was suffering from multiple ailments and despite repeated requests by the family that his health was deteriorating in jail was left unattended by the authorities till his condition worsened yesterday and he died. It deplored the inhumane attitude of the authorities.
The Hurriyat forum said that in the death of Sehrai people of Jammu and Kashmir have lost a sincere able and an honest leader. Paying rich tributes to the senior leader, it said that he was dedicated to his party and its ideology and worked tirelessly and selflessly for the people’s movement, suffering lockup’s and jails in the course of his life. It added that Ashraf Sehrai’s contribution to the Kashmiris’ ongoing freedom movement will always be remembered and honoured by the people.
The Hurriyat forum said that despite repeated appeals to release political prisoners lodged in various jails on humanitarian grounds in view of the devastating COVID catastrophe, Indian authorities are playing with their lives.
