Srinagar, March 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, member of the so-called Kashmir Assembly and the President of Awami Ittihad Party (AIP), Engineer Abdur Rasheed has hailed the increasing support in favour of oppressed Kashmiris in different universities of India and termed the intentions of Indian government to bring “Aazadi” slogans under sedition law an act of its frustration.

Engineer Rasheed in a statement issued in Srinagar said that ultra-nationalists, biased media and other arrogant forces in India had started feeling the heat from the events taking place in Jawaharlal Nehru University, Ramjas College and streets of New Delhi and elsewhere. The way new generation of Indians is openly supporting plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir is evident that people have begun understanding the things better, he added.

Engineer Rasheed said, Kashmiris respect and appreciate the support being offered to their resistance movement by students, scholars and intellectuals in different parts of India. He added that the reports about strengthening sedition law were ample proof to say that the BJP government in India was getting much scared of Aazadi slogans at the streets of New Delhi. He said that India could not avoid Kashmir resolution and would have to hear at least the saner voices within India.

It is to mention here that frustrated over growing support to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination among the sane Indians, the government of India has hinted that slogans like “Azaadi” will be brought under strict sedition law. Indian media reported that Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Venkaiah Naidu, has said that the act of raising “Azaadi slogans” is “treason”. He said, the government is planning to change the existing sedition law to make it more stringent.
