Jammu, May 17 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the villagers of Khanpur area in Udhampur district have resisted against the forceful occupation of their land by the Indian Army.
The land measuring 263 Kanals includes agriculture land, orchard and residential area and belongs to 35 families. The villagers said that the army with the help of revenue authorities and police wanted to vacate them forcibly without serving them a notice.
A resident said that in 2002, the revenue authorities informed the villagers that the army was interested in acquiring the land after proper compensation and resettlement of the residents. He added that they were being paid less as the present rates were very high than what the authorities were promising them to give.
The affected villagers staged demonstrations against the army and asked the authorities to enhance compensation and also provide land for construction of houses.
