Unity committee concerned over economic blockade

Campaign to open Sgr-Mzd road to be launched

Srinagar, July 31 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Unity Committee, jointly formed by the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, in an extraordinary meeting in Srinagar, today, expressed grave concern over the economic blockade by the Hindu extremist groups of Jammu against the people of Kashmir valley.

The meeting was attended by Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Mussarrat Alam Butt and Shabbir Ahmed Dar. They described the aggressive policies of the communal Hindu groups as a mark of their frustration adding that the people of Kashmir would not be intimidated by such tactics. The leaders said that they would shortly announce a joint strategy to meet the challenge posed by the economic blockade. They strongly condemned the attacks on Muslims and stoppage of essentials commodities to the occupied valley by Hindu communal organisations of Jammu.

Addressing a meeting of the APHC leaders and activists, the Hurriyet leader, Nayeem Ahmed Khan said that if the extremist Hindu groups of Jammu were not checked immediately, the APHC would launch a campaign for the opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.

Protest demonstrations in Sopore, Srinagar

Meanwhile, a large number of people held a protest demonstration in Sopore, today, against the burning of two fruit laden trucks by the Hindu extremists at Srinagar-Jammu highway. A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front also participated in the demonstration.  A similar demonstration was staged in the Press Colony of Srinagar.
