Troops’ harassment forces IHK villagers to leave their homes

Srinagar, June 10 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, continued harassment and molestation by Indian troops has forced the villagers of Aragam area in Bandipora district to migrate to safer places.

The families residing close to an Indian army camp have decided to move away as they feel insecure after they protested against the troops’ inhuman behaviour. "We are leaving our homes for saving ourselves. There is no guarantee about the attitude of the troops," said Hameeda Begum, adding, "Troops often enter our houses and harass us.”

Kulsooma Begum, another resident of the area said, "I left my house as on the evening of June 8, four army men in civvies entered our one storey house from the roof side,” adding, “I screamed for help and people gathered in front of my house and staged a protest."

The entire village of Chitaybanday, Argam came on roads on Saturday demanding stern action against the erring troopers in civvies. The youth of the village fear that the army may target them as they took part in the protest demonstrations and raised anti-army slogans. “This is what they did after the Kunan molestation case, during which hundreds of youths were taken into custody," said Mushtaq Ahmed.
