Srinagar, April 30 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, two families of a village in Handwara are living under the shadow of depression and poverty due to the killing of their dear ones by Indian troops.
Gulzar Ahmad of Wagat village in Handwara was killed by the troops in a fake encounter in 1997. His brother Muhammad Sultan said that a year after, some unknown armed men barged into their house and picked up his father, Muhammad Kamal. “Next morning we protested. On the third day, police informed us that the dead body of my beloved father lies in police station Handwara,” he said.
Muhammad Kamal’s wife, Jameela Begam says, “He was the lone bread earner of my family. For last 10 years I am working for survival of my family. Death of my husband has broken my back, there is no life in my soul.”
In the same village, Ghulam Rasool moved out of his home in the morning of 2nd December 2002, but never returned. HIs brother, Ali Muhammad said, “We informed the local police station about it and filed a First Information Report (FIR). That is what they (Police) have done for me till date. I have searched every nook and corner but all our efforts proved useless.”
“Our family is in depression. Nobody tells the whereabouts of my brother. My young daughter could not bear this shock and died due to heart attack,” said Ali Muhammad.
