London, July 05 (KMS): The Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl has termed the brutal attack on the life of senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), Shabbir Ahmed Shah as the frustration of Indian government on seeing the Kashmiris’ liberation struggle gaining strength.
The APHC leader was critically injured outside the Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar while he was leading a huge anti-India procession.
Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl in a statement in London condemned the attack by Indian troops and police on Shabbir Ahmed Shah, use of brute force against thousand of people who thronged the Hazratbal Shrine to protest against Indian illegal occupation and house arrest of the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani. He also denounced the assassination attempt on the life of human rights activist, Pervez Imroz. He termed such acts as worst kind of Indian state terrorism and human rights violations and urged the international community and human rights groups to take action against these inhuman acts.
Professor Shawl maintained that that in an atmosphere of reconciliation when India and Pakistan are engaged in a dialogue and hopes for resolution of Kashmir dispute have brightened, the attacks on Hurriyet leaders, first the JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik and now Shabbir Ahmed Shah are vitiating this atmosphere. He appealed the people of Jammu to maintain communal harmony and not fall in line with the communal forces who were averse to the peace in the region and amicable settlement of Kashmir dispute.
