Serial blasts in India: Kashmiri youth bearing brunt

Srinagar, July 29 (KMS): After serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmadabad, the Indian security agencies have started harassing the Kashmiri businessmen, employees and students putting up in different areas of India.

A daily newspaper of Kashmir reported that parents of various students and businessmen have complained that in the wake of the bomb attacks, security agencies besides harassing their children, who are studying in Bangalore, have also beaten them up. They have demanded safety and security of their children. Mohammad Shafi Mir, whose son is working in an IT company at Bangalore said,  "Our children are being unnecessarily harassed by the police and security agencies.” He said that police has also asked his son and his other colleagues to report daily at a local police station, where very objectionable questions are being posed to them. He maintained that the children are facing mental trauma after harassment from the police. Another father said, “If the present harassment of Kashmiris continues for a few more days our children would be forced to leave the colleges. Our children cannot move freely even in the college campus and they are residing there in a hostile environment.”

There are also the reports of harassment to businessmen and majority of them are those who are selling handicrafts items in various parts of India. Muzaffar Ahmad, who is owner of a handicrafts shop at Mumbai, told the daily on telephone that after the blasts, Kashmiris were being repeatedly questioned by the police. "It is beyond our understanding as to why only Kashmiris are being selectively questioned by the police and security agencies. We came here to do our business. But under such hostile environment, how can we conduct our business properly? If the present circumstances continue, we may be forced to leave the state for safety reasons," he added. The businessmen asked Kashmir Administration to intervene in the matter and discuss it with Indian government as to why Kashmiris were being unnecessarily harassed.
