Protest demo against harassment of Kashmiri students

Srinagar, January 24 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, dozens of students under the banner of Student Welfare Association-Kashmir (SWA-K) held a protest demonstration at Press Colony in Srinagar against the harassment of Kashmiri students outside the Valley and attack on a Kashmiri student in Indian state of Madhya Pradesh (MP).

The student, Shabbir Ahmed Malla of Batangoo Sopore, was shot by unidentified persons in MP. Malla is pursuing M. Phil in Vikram Vishwividaliya University, Ujjain.

Holding placards, the protestors demanded immediate investigation into the matter and punishment to the culprits. “Authorities should take up matter with the Indian Home Minister and Chief Minister of MP so that Kashmiri students studying in various parts of India can get respite and solace from the harassments they have been facing over the years,” the agitated students said.

Criticizing the silence of successive regimes of occupied Kashmir over such incidents in the past, the SWA-K, President, Usman Ghani said, “On one hand Indians ask us to join them and enjoy the share of success like them, but on the other they harass the Kashmiri students.”

About the ill treatment meted out to the Kashmiris, he said that the Kashmiri students were looked upon with suspicion when they make a phone call from STD booths.

Meanwhile, two students from Rajouri had a narrow escape when unidentified motorcyclists tried to assault them in Ujjain. The students identified as Waqar Ahmad Malik and Tasavar Hussain are M. Phil students in Vikram University. They told media persons over phone that Kashmiris were being harassed in Madhya Pradesh.
