Police in IHK files case against Indian Army Major

Srinagar, July 20 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, police has registered a case against an Indian Army Major, KK Dvewedi of the 1831 Light Infantry Regiment for firing without permission on the Tossamaidan firing range in Budgam and misbehaving with a policeman.

The station house officer (SHO) for Khaag in the district, Aslam Shah said that army has to seek permission from the local police station before using the firing range for arms training. “This is to ensure that the people living in the vicinity are warned in advance so that that they do not suffer loss of life or property,” the police officer added.

Aslam Shah said, “The personnel of the army unit led by the major used the range for firing without permission creating an atmosphere of fear and terror in the area,” adding, “As soon as a police party reached the scene, the major and some of his subordinates misbehaved with policeman Muzaffar Ahmad and used foul language against the police.”

On the other hand, members of Indian army sponsored Village Defence Committee (VDC) are involved in serious excesses in the higher reaches of Poonch and Rajouri districts. Armed with sophisticated weapons, the members of VDC have set up camps in these areas causing severe hardships for the local population. Several incidents of misbehaviour and molestation of women at the hands of the VDC members have been reported recently. People living in these areas have expressed strong resentment against the activities of VDC members, but the puppet authorities are not paying heed to peoples’ concerns.
