APHC headquarter besieged, leaders house arrested
Srinagar, June 25 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the third day of protests, today, against transfer of Kashmiris’ land to non-Kashmiris was marked with big demonstrations, processions and violent clashes between angry mobs and Indian troops in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Sopore, Bejbehara, Islamabad, Shopian, Pulwama and other cities.
Complete strike was observed all across the occupied territory and dozens of demonstrators were injured when the troops resorted to indiscriminate firing, heavy lathi charges and excessive teargas shelling at various places. The demonstrators raised high pitched anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.
Senior APHC leader, Shaikh Abdul Aziz and Vice President of the Action Committee Against Land Transfer, Dr Mubeen Shah led the procession and addressing the gatherings warn India to desist from repressive measures particularly changing the demographic compositions of the territory. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front also organized a march from Lal Chowk to Hawal in Srinagar.
Senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom were put under house arrest to prevent them from leading protest demonstrations in the city. The APHC headquarter at Rajbagh in Srinagar was besieged by the troops and over a dozen leaders including Nayeem Ahmad Khan were detained inside.
Leaders of Action Committee against land transfer, which included Mohammad Sadiq Baqal, Maulana Showket Ahmad and Zaffar Akbar Butt were taken into custody after subjecting them to torture while they were leading processions in interior localities of Srinagar city.
