No reason for Kashmiri woman to celebrate Mother’s Day

Srinagar, May 12 (KMS): In occupied, eighty-years-old Taja of Drugmulla, Kupwara, had no reason to celebrate Mother’s Day that was observed throughout the world on Sunday as her son, Rauf Ahmad Shah was picked up by Indian troops in early 90's and did not return since.

Taja told mediamen in Srinagar that she would celebrate all days when her son would return. "I want to know where my son is," she said with tears rolling down her wrinkled cheeks.

She remembers the day of Rauf's arrest and later her visits to camp and then denial by Indian army. "In the dead of the night the troops of Drugmulla camp came and arrested him in 1992," she said. She pointed out that she and visited the camp off and on for two consecutive months but could not get any information about Rauf.

Taja also visited different jails in India and the occupied territory with the hope to trace out her son. The jail authorities used to check list but her son existed nowhere.

For Taja there is nothing to celebrate as she said in choked voice, "Go and ask your mother; if you are ill, how she feels," adding, " My son is missing since his arrest; how can I celebrate or even sleep".
