New Delhi draining IHK economy: Gilani

Srinagar, May 14 (KMS): Senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has emphasised that the Indian government is draining the economy of occupied Kashmir.

Addressing a seminar in Srinagar, Syed Ali Gilani said that the Indian government was collecting Rs 24,831 crores annually from various sectors. Referring to the supply of essential commodities transported by the Indian government to Jammu and Kashmir he said, “The total amount of commodities transported annually are worth Rs 23,000 crores but the excise and service tax paid at the rate of 8 per cent accumulates to Rs 1840 crores,” adding that the yearly income tax collected from business and other institutions is Rs 500 crores.

Hurriyet leader said, “Indian government is not doing any favour to people of the occupied territory. They are exploiting our resources,” adding, “India is producing 2400 Megawatts of electricity, out of which occupied Kashmir generates 1600 Megawatts, and the irony is that Kashmiri people continue to face power shortage.” He pointed out that only 12 percent of electricity was supplied to common people, out of which the occupational forces used 4 percent.
