Srinagar, August 04 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Muslim community members of Karfali Mohalla Habba Kadal organised a marriage ceremony of a Kashmiri Pandit girl setting a glaring example of hospitality and religious brotherhood.
The locals and Auqaf Committee Habba Kadal jointly arranged the ceremony of Suman daughter of late Poshkarnath Koul maintaining the centuries old tradition of Muslim-Pandit brotherhood.
The neighbours of the Pandit family said “We did it as our moral duty. We know at present communal forces are eyeing to harm the religious fraternity, but we won’t let anybody harm that. We are Muslims and will abide by what our religion says in matters of behaviour with our neighbours, no matter what the caste or religion of our neighbour is.” A local, Muhammad Iqbal said, “It was an honour for me to serve the guests of Suman who is just like my sister. She is my sister’s friend and often visits our house. I felt as if I was arranging the marriage ceremony of my own sister when I was serving the guests.”
The Pandit family while taking due care of their Muslim neighbours had arranged a separate Kashmiri wazwan for them. A relative of the Pandit family, Avtar Krishan Koul said “We had arranged Kashmiri wazwan for the Muslims earlier and when the Baraat came it was completely handled by the Muslim Kashmiris.” He added that Muslim women welcomed the groom with wanwun. Koul said “ I think this should send a clear message to the people who are hell bent upon creating communal violence and harming the religious brotherhood.”
