Liberation leaders pay rich tributes to martyred Mirwaiz, Lone

Srinagar, May 21 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, pro-liberation leaders have paid glowing tributes to prominent liberation leaders, Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone on their martyrdom anniversaries on Wednesday.

Moulvi Mohammad Farooq was martyred on May 21, 1990 by Indian agents after shooting him at point-blank range in his house in Srinagar. Indian troops fired indiscriminately on Mirwaiz’s funeral procession in Hawal area martyring seventy mourners. Khwaja Abdul Ghani Lone was similarly martyred on the same day in 2002, when he was returning after addressing a gathering organized at Eidgah in Srinagar to commemorate Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq’s martyrdom anniversary.

Senior Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani prayed for the peace of departed souls and said that Shaheed Mirwaiz was a scion of the family whose forefathers had played a commendable role in spreading the message of Islam in the held Valley. Paying tributes to Shaheed Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, the Hurriyet leader said that he was a brave and bold political leader who would say everything very openly without any fear.

Paying rich tributes to the martyred leaders and the martyrs of Hawal, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement in Srinagar said that Mirwaiz’s religious services and his unforgettable role in the freedom movement would be long remembered. He further said that boldness and sincerity of Khawja Abdu Lone as a political leader would be written in golden letters in the history of Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, at a meeting held in Srinagar with its President Nazir Ahmad Ronga in chair, paid rich tributes to the martyred leaders. The Association reiterated the pledge to take the martyrs’ mission to its logical end.

The President of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Forum, Pandit Bushan Bazaz also paid glowing tributes to the martyred leaders. He described Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq as a great religious scholar and selfless political leader who always during his lifetime launched a relentless struggle for eradication of social evils in the occupied territory.

The Employees United Front (EUF) President, Bashir Ahmad Ganai, in his tributes to the Mirwaiz described him a great Islamic scholar and a bold leader of Kashmiris.
