Legal experts in IHK criticize police for arresting Kashmiris

Srinagar, July 15 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, legal experts have severely criticized police for arresting people who took part in the recent massive protests against order of transferring Kashmiris’ land to non-Kashmiris.

The police have started large-scale hunt to arrest the protesters in Srinagar and other parts of the held valley after identifying them on the footages, photographs and information provided by Indian agents.

The President of Kashmir Bar Association, Nazir Ahmad Ronga termed the arrests on suspicion as vague and said that the arrests are not fare as the peaceful demonstrations against illegal order were legal.

Senior High Court Advocate, Zaffar Ahmad Shah while talking to mediamen said, “Nobody can arrest people on the basis of photographs and footage when protests were massive,” adding, “The police have to produce strong evidences to arrest anyone from the mob.” He further said that police swung into action at the behest of Indian government.

Another senior advocate of the High Court, Mian Abdul Qayoom said Kashmiri people are being arrested on mere suspicion due to implementation of draconian acts like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Disturbed Areas Act. He said that the Supreme Court ruling clearly states that the arrests could only be undertaken if the police has solid proof against the accused.

Meanwhile, the Bar association has announced to provide legal help to all those people who had been arrested in connection with the protests.
