Mirwaiz, APHC leaders arrested

Srinagar, August 11 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris marched to the line of control, today, amidst large-scale arrests, indiscriminate firing and use of brute force by Indian troops.

Indian troops fired shots and tear gas on Monday to disperse hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris marching towards Line of Control to protest economic blockade by Hindu hooliguns.Three persons were martyred in troop’s firing one each in Sangrama, Sopore and Qamarwari. Hundreds of people were injured, when the troops subjected them to brute force at several places particularly in Sopore, Sangrama, Kana Kadal, Bemina, Parimpora and Qamarwari. In Qamarwari the troops barged into the houses and molested the women.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Glani, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Professor Abdul Ghani Butt, Bilal Ghani Lone, Syed Agha Hassan- Al-Mosoovi and Main Abdul Qayoom were placed under house arrest to prevent them from leading the march.

During the whole day people in thousands sprang from various places to   march towards the LoC. Despite strict restrictions by the troops people in large number marched from different corners towards the Line of Control. Till last reports came in, hundreds of thousands of people led by APHC leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Sheikh Abdul Aziz and Nayeem Ahmad Khan had reached near Rampur, 15 kilometres from the LoC. Thousands of fruit growers with fruit laden trucks also included in the march, despite the fact that the troops deflated the tyres at several places. The marchers raised high-pitched slogans like Pakistan Zindabad and We Want Freedom.

Dozens of people from Poonch and Rajouri districts, led by Hurriyet leader, Ghulam Ahmad Mir were arrested while they had reached the LoC and were trying to cross it. 

All Hurriyet leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, besides Bar Association, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Fruit Growers Association and Kashmir Chamber of Commence and Industries had given the call to march to Muzaffarabad following economic blockade of the occupied territory by the Hindu fanatic organisations.
